CAPRICORN SAFARIS

Capricorn Safaris is a Botswana based safari company with affiliations in Kenya and Tanzania. We have been outfitting safaris throughout East and Southern Africa since 1972.

Traditionally all safaris were æunder canvasÆ and accordingly, all our safaris are primarily tented. In Africa this is the preferred mode of accommodation, a camping safari should be luxurious.

Our tents are spacious, and include beds with duvets, pillows and towels. Battery powered lights at the bedside provide illumination and our staff are always ready to top up the bucket showers with hot water, primitive but wonderfully enjoyable after a full day tracking game. Wholesome three course meals are served at table in the dining tent, and all wine and soft drinks are part of the deal.

Camps are pre-erected by a service team who go on ahead, enabling clients to spend their days looking for game, not worrying about camp chores.

Transport is by custom built Toyota Land Cruisers seating a maximum of six clients. Each vehicle is equipped with large roof hatches for photography, a fridge to keep the drinks cold and a reference library. Every safari is accompanied by a Professional Guide licensed by BotswanaÆs Department of Wildlife and National Parks. In the Okavango, transport is by traditional dugouts (mokoros) or motor-boat.

The discomfort of a safari in Botswana is part of the attraction. Most of the roads we use are sandy tracks, and at times it can be hot and dusty! The rewards are harder to describe. To watch the sun set over the Okavango, to spot the elusive leopard, to witness a herd of elephants come to the river at dusk, or to sit around a campfire listening to the African night. Tthese are the rewards - memories that will serve you well in the great, crowded cities of the world.

If you are looking for iced cocktails and a hot bath every night, these safaris are not for you. But if you want to leave the world behind and enjoy some traditional African hospitality, we would like to have you along.
